I used a much more vibrant palette here – especially that deep, royal blue for Mary’s mantle; to symbolize her role as Queen of Heaven. I included the angels with instruments to surround them with a sense of perpetual worship. When I painted their expressions, I focused on that gentle, knowing look in Mary’s eyes and the way the Child Jesus gazes up at her; it’s meant to be a moment of peace and protection before the weight of his mission begins.
